Spring Break Pickle Jar

IMG_6879.JPG

This week is Spring Break for my kids. We are happily staying home this year. But that doesn't mean we're doing nothing. I put out a pickle jar a week ago and asked everyone to put ideas of things to do in it. I have yet to crack it open, but I already know some of the things in there - go to the Dexter Bakery (best apple fitters on the planet), go to the Diego and Frida exhibit at the DIA, have various playdates, visit Kate & Kirsten's new puppies, watch the basketball playoffs, play board games, clean your rooms (I wonder who put that in there?).

Lots of little stuff, but mostly everyone wants to just hang out, which makes me happy. The older the kids get the more life feels like a forced march and a wandery type of break is just perfect.

What is your family doinfg for break? We'll be home with the pickle jar, can I bring you a fritter?

When Friends Destash Everyone Wins!

My friend Sasha of Sheepspot fame came to town to visit. Before she came she asked an innocent enough question, "I'm destashing do you need anything?" I mentioned teaching and variegated fibers and stuff for batts. She brought me six black trashbags!

Now I have a bounty of fibers for my students and for my class batt making. The batt making is never ending. Another excellent fiber friend Beth Smith loaned me her electric carder and I am forever grateful.

What's the best fiber gift you've ever recieved?

My view today

Today I am making batts for my Spinning Batts class at Yarn Fest. My living room looks like 10,000 rainbow sheep exploded. I am knee deep in fiber of every color and type. It's not fast work but there is a part of me that enjoys that it can't be rushed, it's creative and calming.

What are you working on today?

Welcome!

I decided to have my own little space to jabber about things besides spinning and knitting like I do on the KnittyBlog and the PLY Magazine blog. Don't worry if you are here for more spinning and knitting – there will be plenty of that too!

I needed a spot to talk about other stuff too, like the books I'm reading, my kids and all of the other crafty and otherwise things I'm excited about.

So here I am and here's something I think is gorgeous to kick off the fun on my blog.
