Yorkshire, Cumbria and The Lake District

May 7 – May 16 2024

Janine and I are a little obsessed with this trip, our first pass was a trip over three weeks long! We’ve pared it down to eight full days of exploring, visiting and shopping (plus two days for travel).

We’ll travel from Manchester into Cumbria, the Lake District, then explore the Yorkshire Dales.

Along the way we’ll visited yarn shops specializing in British sheep breeds, brush up on our color knitting with Susan Crawford, and learn to knit Yorkshire Dales Gloves with Ann Kingstone.

We’ll meet with Maria Benjamin and Zoe Fletcher two women who are changing the way British Sheep breeds are used and appreciated in handknitting and ready to wear clothing.

It's not all wool (just mostly), we can’t go to northern England without visiting Hilltop Farm, home of Beatrix Potter or the Bronte Parsonage. No one will be judged for standing on the moors and plaintively yelling, “Cathy!”, you are among friends.

The stunning landscapes and history we’ll encounter on our trip will fuel your imagination and creativity. We’ve scheduled a boat tour deep into the Lake District, and a full day touring a historic castle, complete with afternoon tea, and birds of prey.🦉 Artist Alice Fox will give us a presentation on how place informs her beautiful textile work.

There will be lots of yarn and sheep, a mill tour and classes with both Janine and me.

Now, how do you like your afternoon tea, sweet or savory?
